We are looking for dynamic candidates with significant technical experience and expertise in social and behavior change (SBC) for the position of Technical Director for an estimated $300 million global project. The project will focus on innovation, thought leadership and implementation of SBC, and cut across health areas, supporting countries in achieving desired improvements in health and development outcomes, including increasing demand for family planning (FP) and satisfaction with modern contraception; ending preventable child and maternal deaths (EPCMD); achieving and maintaining and AIDS-Free Generation (AFG); and achieving a malaria-free world.
The Technical Director will oversee the project's technical activities and staff. S/He should have significant experience with and knowledge of evidence-based SBC methods and strategies; current global best practices in SBC; use of rigorous monitoring and evaluation techniques to create real-time feedback loops; and be consistently looking for ways to innovate and test new approaches to change behavior.
This position will be based in Washington, D.C. with 25% travel.

- Oversee the project's technical activities and staff
- Ensure the quality of core-funded technical activities across a range of health areas and SBC
- Promote exchange and learning from core-funded activities both across technical teams within the project and with other USAID partners working in the same areas.
- Provide technical leadership in SBC design, implementation and quality assurance
- Support the evolution of PSI's SBC approach across a range of country and regional programs and liaise with PSI's marketing team to ensure integrated SBC approaches across PSI
- Work with consortium partners to provide technical leadership in SBC capacity strengthening strategies and execution
- Work closely with knowledge management partners and staff to ensure user-friendly and wide dissemination of lessons learned in SBC
- Facilitate adherence to rigorous quality standards and appropriate global strategy across all SBC programs
- Oversee development of appropriate tools for SBC design, implementation and other technical components as necessary
- Ensure appropriate and timely SBC technical support to all in-country programs
- Work with program consortia to innovate, test and determine best strategies to uncover target audience insights and translate them into quality program design
- Work closely with M&E team to use real-time data to create consistent feedback loops for program improvement
- Contribute to high-quality periodic reporting in line with USAID and PSI requirements.
What are we looking for?
- You have a Master's degree in public health, communication, or marketing
- You have 15 years' experience working in international health, including experience in a technical leadership capacity on large projects focused primarily on social behavior change
- You are a Senior technical expert in at least one of the project's priority health areas (FP/RH, HIV/AIDS, MCH, malaria), gender or youth; with sufficient understanding of all these areas to direct integrated efforts
- You have demonstrated thought leadership in the field of SBC, social marketing or another behavior change discipline, with a proven record of innovation in programming and are comfortable writing about and presenting your work
- You possess a strong understanding of best practices in individual and institutional capacity strengthening for SBC, and will have personal experience in applying key approaches
- You have designed, implemented and evaluated SBC programs with demonstrated health impact
- You have experience providing SBC technical direction to projects and strategically designing programs
- You have used multi-disciplinary approaches to design and implement SBC programs or brought inter-disciplinary teams together to take on a challenge
- You have experience engaging beneficiaries in intervention design and development
- You are willing to travel approximately 25% during the life of the program
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- At least 5 years of experience living or working in a developing country is highly preferred
- Fluency in English required, French preferred

A Connector. You have experience working with diverse stakeholders on a project, from Ministries of Health, to partners, to global health donors. You acknowledge and understand the viewpoints of each group yet are able to make tough calls and communicate constructive feedback, no matter the group.
