The Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (AWAM) is an independent, voluntary, non profit women’s association which is not associated or affiliated with the government or any political party. AWAM is registered under the Society registration Act (XXI of 1860), with its main office in Faisalabad. AWAM has started its work formally in August 2006. The main areas of concern of AWAM are Oppressed Women including women with disabilities, domestic and home based workers and minority women. The association is committed to create women rights activism among the grassroots communities to improve the lot of oppressed women (women with disabilities, domestic and home based workers and minority women) in Pakistan. AWAM believes that activism evolve and engage lower class women, who form majority of the population. The main aims of the association include, creating, raising and extending awareness of human rights among the people, mobilizing public opinion, collecting information and exchanging knowledge and experience about human rights and women rights with other likeminded organizations. Association is making conscious hope of obtaining some recognition of the identity and rights of women (women with disabilities, minorities, home based workers and domestic workers) by involving them in different activities and raising voice for women’s rights at different forums.
