As a correspondent placed in Chandigarh, the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab, i was given the unique opportunity to write on the social issues of the two states. The region, one of the wealthiest and the most developed areas of the country, had a lot of media coverage regarding the ever increasing per capita income and standard of living. After travelling the rural landscape extensively i found out the inequalities in this growth, especially in the social structure of society.
Despite having access to technology and education the rural side had prevalence of social evils like female foeticide, lack of basic awareness, presence of inhuman practicies like manual scavenging, caste based violence and the draconian Diktats of caste based counsels(Khap Panchayats.)
My experiences provoked my interests and i wrote on the issues which rarely got covered due to social and administrative cover-ups and lack of information.
