I have been a jounalist for nearly three years and have worked on two newspapers, a tabliod and a community newspaper. In both instances i have worked with many people who live in poverty and have little access to information or facilities. In many cases it heartbreaking to see people living in such conditions.
My personal interests are environmental or land issues. South Africa has such a beautiful diversity in its landscapes and all of that needs to be protected. Parts of it does but its usually the developers who win at the end of the day. These developers hijack kilometers of coastline for new and exclusive developments which are not accesible to the majority of my countrymen. These homes are then sold for millions of rands. It angers me because first of all, the coastlines are part of sensitive eco-systems. Secondly, poor people are denied proper housing. The Western Cape alone has a housing waiting list of over 400 000 people. It cost R1 billion for 15 000 houses. If housing developments are planned correctly we could save part of the environment. But as I said I haven't touched on this topic when writing stories.
