I am a highly experienced journalist and journalism educator working primarily within culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and also in transitional countries using media to facilitate effective communication and advance development. I have extensive experience planning, developing, delivering and evaluating media education and knowledge sharing initiatives and the development of educational resources, particularly for community media and NGOs. I have considerable experience managing teams, organising events, communication campaigns and dealing with administrative tasks. I have won a number of international awards for broadcasting excellence.
My interests are in media development in vulnerable states and the use of journalism in upholding democractic process and ethical behaviour. I enjoy empowering those who find dealing with the media daunting or impossible and helping groups develop media strategies that can assist them gain coverage. I am committed to helping humanitarian organisations, human rights groups, women, environmental and health organisations. The use of digital media is a great way to ensure citizen journalists have a voice.
