I have an inter-disciplinary background across Health and Development Studies. I completed my undergraduate degree in Medicine (M.B.B.S) from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum, followed by a doctorate from Wolfson College, Oxford University. I have been involved in policy-relevant research, on multi-dimensional poverty including health, nutrition, education,(Sen's capabilities approach) income and social exclusion. I have also been involved in a range of projects with the United Nations Research Institute on Social Development, the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank.
My current interest is in the area of sociald eterminants of health and in systematic reviews in Public Health. I am very keen on the translation and use of evidence from systematic reviews for bringing about changes in policy. I am currently developing countries consultant editor for the Cochrane Public Health Review Group.
