ESS derives its inspiration from the philosophy of Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi. It is a non-profit secular organization and includes members from different social groups of India irrespective of caste creed colour sex etc. ever since its foundation ESS has been working with children and aged people –the two most vulnerable section of society in this age of globalization. This has been possible mainly due to the physical, emotional moral and financial support of its individual members.ESS,, as of present has not applied for funds to any funding agencies and has organized programmes solely through individual contributions from friends relatives and well-wishers. Eastern Studies society is a registered Non Government organisation (non-funded) organisation based in Nagpur city. (Registration no: 475/06). The society runs a care centre for HIV infected children. As you may be already aware that HIV today is pandemic and India is fast becoming an epicentre of the epidemic. Despite awareness programmes the National AIDS Control organisation there is still around 86% of the Indian population who are not aware of the virus. What is even more disastrous is that the epidemic is spreading to the rural areas and among the common people. While Women are silent recipients of the Virus, children are innocent victims. If she is a girl child the situation becomes even more challenging. Given the society’s stigma against the virus and the discrimination they face, Children seemed to be the most deprived for no fault of their own. It may be noted that that an HIV positive child is deprived of his/her basic right to education as no school willingly admits them. Not only this, they are ignored by their family members also. Therefore the society opened this centre and to do something for them so that they can live a life of dignity.
