I did pioneering research on the use of mass communicaton media as an instrument of development in the British colonial period in Afraica beginning with Rats in Lagos (film made in Lagos in 1938). I documented the development films made by the Colonial Film Unit and the Central African Film Unit in the 1940s and 1950s. I am now interested in following on from that and getting a view on what is happening now in terms of:
. technologies and formats being used
. mass comm, learning and modernisation/globalisation theories now attached to these activities;
. evaluation of activities;
. mapping involvement of various organizations, national and international that support these endeavours, eg govt. agencies such as USAID, NORAID, Rockefeller, Ford foundations, churches, etc. to get the big picture the world wide web of involvement in communication for change in Africa.
