PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE A registered medical practitioner (MD, PhD) dealing with general clinical conditions, tropical and infectious diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pneumonia, cardiac and renal diseases, parasitic infestations, malaria, tuberculosis, meningitis, HIV/AIDS, diarrhoeal diseases and malnutrition. Throughout my career I have attended several professional courses, including: - Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Institutional Research Board (IRB) Training; - Basic Sonography; - Anti Retro Viral Therapy in HIV/AIDS and Management of Opportunistic Infections; - Partnership for Enhancing Human Research Protection (PEHRP) I and II; - 6th Global Forum for Bioethics in Research; - Administrator 101 Course; - Medical Informatics (which included IT skills e.g. Internet, MS Word, MS Excel, Epi-Info and a working knowledge of SSSP). I have been involved in training health personnel, and in this respect I have attended several courses including University Learning and Teaching Methods, Training of Trainers Course, Strategic Resource Management in Higher Education (UNESCO/IIEP) and I was enrolled in special courses in Primate Biology and Electron Microscopy. I have held the Chair of Anatomy and provided service to the Departments of Surgery and Medical Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Malawi and at other Universities I have worked in or visited. In this capacity I have instructed clinical anatomy to medical, dental, rehabilitation, pharmacy students and students in the allied health professions. In addition, I was instrumental in the establishment of the Department of Anatomy, the Office of the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research, and the actual establishment of the College of Medicine as such. I have published books, written papers in refereed journals, and presented papers to professional societies and at conferences on higher education. Moreover, I have served in, and have been a member of Reserach Ethics Committees. I am experienced in administration and management, and I have done consultancies. At present, I continue to lecture undergraduate and postgraduate students, conduct research and I am actively involved in general medical practice. My current interest is in short and long term consultancies in establishing new or strengthening existing health institutions, HIV and AIDS-related assignments, and working with NGOs.
