Skills Working in a private clinic gave me an opportunity to learn to be responsible and honest to my patient and my seniors while at the same time learning at every step and sharpening my skills. Having an opportunity to work at a call center made me think more empathetically about the other person and be precise and efficient at the same time while it also equipped me with better communication skills and knowledge of various operating system and the importance of service industry. While I was working as a faculty in the college I lead the team of interns in surveys which made me realize the importance of team work and the potential of working together in terms of work force and in terms of better thinking and implementation. It also made me realize the potential of public health and motivated me to pursue my carrier in Public Health. In first semester MPH we did Health services utilization and Health needs survey in Pune urban slum’s .In second semester MPH we did Pulse Polio Immunization coverage in Pune city with a sample size of 2400.These surveys and there analysis gave us the necessary field experience and an insight into subjects like epidemiology, biostatistics and hands on experience with SPSS, survey techniques, questionnaire designing etc. I completed MPH in May 2008 with summer internship program in various PHC’s; the experience at PHC gave me an opportunity to visit Primary Health Centers in the near vicinity of Pune. These visits made me realize the importance of prevention and reinforced the idea for which I joined MPH. In third semester I did NFHS II AND III analysis on SPSS (statistical software) and a project on “Risk factors for Malnutrition and morbidity in Under 5 children in rural Maharashtra”. Later I also submitted a proposal “An intervention study to reduce the degree of malnutrition among under-5 children.” for my proposal writing course for submission to CRY. Both of these projects made me implement whatever I learnt in all four semester, my management skills, behavior science, health economy, budgeting and analytical abilities. The project made me well verse with MS office, Access, SPSS and Epi Info. The analytical abilities I imbibed during my work on dissertation on analysis of NFHS II and III data set and various other short projects like proposal writing made me more mature and stable and courses like clinical trial gave us insight into technical intricacies involved in a clinical trials. Working on different projects like Pulse Polio, proposal writing and on my dissertation made my knowledge more comprehensive and interacting with people and implying the knowledge I learnt, in understanding, the needs of the people made me more passionate and critical about my work. This academic experience plus the experience I earned while working at different places has reinforced my interest in pursuing my career in the field of epidemiology and public health. .
