Role: Programme Officer for media development and ICTs
I have been working in the media for the past nine years. The first 8 years, my work involved processing and dissemination of agricultural extension messages to farmers in rural Zambia using a multimedia approach, with a bias to radio and television.
I have spent an additional year to date on promoting community media development. This has involved rendering capacity building support to community radio stations and print media intitutions around the country in terms of training and equipment provision. On the other hand, I have been spearheading mobilisation and capacitation of community media groups called Radio Listening Groups.
These groups are linked to radio stations in their localities in terms of supervision and programming. They record their perspectives on various subjects (environment, gender, health, governance, etc)as they relate to development in their communities and country by engaging in debate and dialogue with government and other development support organisations.
