All religions and faith community participants engage in celebration on the Day of Prayer and Action for Children, which falls on November 20. Religious leaders sign and circulate a joint statement to the media in which they seek to promote positive aspects of childhood and adolescence in Panama and ask for media, through their stories and reports, to promote social policies aimed at adequate protection of childhood and adolescence.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>As part of the strategy, mobilising in the schools is done through sensitisation workshops where children learn to know how to identify violence and how it affects their development, as well as present their ideas about ways to reduce violence and abuse in their environments. In parallel, through a social media strategy, the community raises its voice against violence, using Facebook, Twitter and web platforms developed by the institutions involved.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In 2013, the theme for World Day of Prayer and Action for Children was "An adolescent without violence", a message disseminated throughout the month in many media contexts. Meetings between religious leaders, UNICEF, and the media sensitised journalists to use approaches that promote the rights of children.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Many religious leaders shared in their celebrations with their parishioners the messages related to the importance of protecting children and adolescents against violence. As part of the process, approximately 140 students from schools of all religions worked to identify forms of violence that affect them and to develop their leadership and communication skills.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The strategy had high visibility with the publication of a statement signed by all religious and social media leaders in an effort to create a network of more than 400 people per post related to the topic and more than 1,600 "likes" on Facebook. All activities that were promoted invited people to raise their voice for an "adolescence without violence" with the hashtag: #Diadelaoracion and #Endviolence.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>In 2014, there was once again a celebration of a Day for a Childhood and Adolescence without Violence, on which religious leaders, signed for the third year, a statement, published in various media, around promoting social policies aimed at the appropriate protection of childhood and adolescence. During the month of November about 300 students were linked through awareness workshops in their schools, including the Pan American Institute, Arab Academy for Columbus, College Rabin, and Badi School.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The entire population was invited to raise their voice through networks to stop violence, and a Sunday Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Panama with the presence of leaders of other religious communities, which was televised and transmitted from the Basilica Don Bosco where over 300 children and adolescents participated.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-long-text-6"> <div class="field-label">Development Issues:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Children, Youth, Rights</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-long-text-2"> <div class="field-label">Key Points:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KN6lzUTyaNY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img src="http://www.comminit.com/global/files/imagecache/thumbnail/descal2015.jpg" alt="" title="" width="77" height="100" class="imagecache imagecache-thumbnail imagecache-default imagecache-thumbnail_default"/> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-partner-text"> <div class="field-label">Partner Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>UNICEF, Red Global de Religiones a favor de la Niñez (GNRC).&nbsp;According to the 2013 annual report of UNICEF Panama 2013, to celebrate the Day of Prayer, the organisation worked with the Ecumenical Committee of Panama and the leaders of the Catholic, Episcopal, Anglican religion, Islam, Jewish community Kohl Sherit, and the Baha'i Faith.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-contactinfo"> <div class="field-label">Contact Information:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/global/node/7433">Janibeth Miranda - UNICEF Panamá</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-link-other-nodes"> <div class="field-label">Related Summaries:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/global/content/por-una-ni%C3%B1ez-y-adolescencia-sin-violencia">Por una Niñez y Adolescencia sin Violencia</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-source-text"> <div class="field-label">Source:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><a href="/redirect.cgi?r=http://www.unicef.org/panama/spanish/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">UNICEF Panama website</a>, March 14 2015.</p> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.comminit.com/global/content/childhood-and-adolescence-without-violence" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.comminit.com/global/content/childhood-and-adolescence-without-violence#comments Panama Experiences 10 to 14 years 15 to 19 years Academic Institutions Advocacy Children - Communicating with, for and about Community Engagement with Dialogue and Action Digital Children Community Participation Live Performance Reducing Violence Civil Society Community Groups Phone/Mobile Community Media Print Radio Adolescents and Violence Television News Media NGOs Religious Groups United Nations Rights Youth Featured UNICEF Adolescent Development Communicating with, for and about children Global Early Child Development Thu, 16 Apr 2015 19:26:45 +0000 jlevy 9354637 at http://www.comminit.com Escuela Audiovisual Infantil - EAI (Child Audiovisual School), Belén de los Andaquíes http://www.comminit.com/global/content/escuela-audiovisual-infantil-eai-child-audiovisual-school-bel%C3%A9n-de-los-andaqu%C3%ADes <p>This project, centred on community participatory communication, was created to give the children of Belén de los Andaquíes (Caquetá), Colombia, a place to "expand the project of living" through storytelling and media, in order to move away from the consequences of conflict.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-long-text-1"> <div class="field-label">Communication Strategies:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The EAI is dedicated to the exploration of visual language and use of communication technologies for the production of audiovisual and multimedia collective pieces in collaboration with children and young people to contribute to self-recognition of cultural values and capacities for building a life plan.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Under the slogan "No story no camera", the school leadership intends that young people become interested in registering their experiences and everything that "characterises their territory." The school does not teach anything that the child does not need for the achievement of his project goals. Second, ‘Technologies connected to our locality’, when a child observes his context through a digital camera, he is taking his place in the community and gains awareness of his role in the construction of a collective future. Third, ‘We narrate what we do and who we are’, so the community can discover where it wants to go in terms of future development.
