Mr. Rustam Haydarov, M.Sc., serves as Senior Communication Manager a.i. at Global Polio Eradication Programme with UNICEF HQ. Mr. Haydarov joined UNICEF in 2001 where over his career he worked in various development and emergency contexts of Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Pakistan and the Eastern and Southern Africa region. He is passionate communication professional who applies technical competence and social data in guiding UNICEF communication teams to design C4D programmes that support enabling environment for repeated Polio campaigns and address social barriers to Polio immunization.
Mr. Haydarov coordinated UNICEF C4D Polio outbreak response and preparedness in the Horn of Africa sub-region, including Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and other countries. He has robust knowledge or polio eradication programme and brings on-board robust field experience from various polio endemic and outbreak countries. During his earlier career Mr. Haydarov also worked with the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and K-State University in the fields of health communication and applied marketing research.
Mr. Rustam Haydarov is an Edmund S. Muskie fellow of the US Department of State. He earned his Master’s degree from A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also holds M.S. and B.S. degree in International Affairs (Regional Studies for Middle East and North Africa) from the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. Mr. Haydarov is a researcher and an author of several published work on determinants of vaccination acceptance, message framing design and engagement strategies with mobile and high-risk populations.
