In 2005, leaders of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) agreed on a collective initiative to “enhance capacity building in preventing and controlling a pandemic of avian origin at its source.” In September 2006, members met for a seminar focused on building capacity for effective domestic measures to prevent and control avian influenza, and sharing useful information and best practices to do so. In response to a call from Japan, as a follow-up action to the seminar, 17 APEC members shared a brief response of their domestic measures, which are compiled in this document. The data is collected by country and presented as measures for control and prevention of aspects of the virus, with detailed descriptions of the measures listed.
