Nov 6 2014 - Nov 7 2014

Cape Town, South Africa

The Mobile 360 Series Africa event seeks to explore how mobile network operators, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders can collaborate to overcome roadblocks in technology, governance, business models, and investment to extend affordable access to mobile and internet services, and promote digital inclusion and empower citizens. The theme of the conference is "Driving Digital Financial Inclusion."

According to the organisers, GSMA, "mobile connectivity is already playing a key role in inclusion of the underserved in the social and economic development of many African countries, but clearly there is much room for further development. Ideally that development will offer a clear benefit to all within a country’s population: reducing any digital divide; supporting families and businesses; and offering access to essential education, skills and finance to create flourishing local digital economies." During conference sessions and various co-located programmes, the Africa conference will include keynote addresses, panel sessions, and case studies to prompt audience interaction and discussion.

The conference will examine the practical steps to be taken to help bring about collaboration, including:

  • coordinating and enabling policies promoting digital and financial inclusion;
  • extending affordable access to mobile and internet services;
  • empowering citizens to make the most of new opportunities; and
  • supporting the required investment at macro and micro levels.
