Information on "Male Participation in Prevention of Vertical HIV Transmission Programmes - Vienna World AIDS Conference" (Monday July 19 2010, from 11:00-12:30, in Mini Room 10) - includes a focus on male involvement in prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. Requesting your response and ideas...

Facilitators Elena Chanotakis, Christian Pitter, and Dean Peacock (United States) and Appolinaire Tiam and Lesotho Patrick Godana (South Africa) will lead a skills building workshop on male involvement in PMTCT and HIV care and treatment. It will begin with an overview of evidence-based links between gender inequality and HIV and will then take participants through a series of frameworks that can highlight context-specific factors that perpetuate the spread of HIV and pose barriers to male involvement in PMTCT and HIV care and treatment. The workshop will then explore strategies and approaches for: enlisting men to protect their partners from HIV, supporting participation in prevention of vertical HIV transmission programmes, and proactively helping families access HIV care and treatment. This workshop will enable participants to put skills in practice by engaging in a group case study involving situational analysis and design of a strategy.
