Hosted by Open Society Foundations and organised by the World Newsmedia Network and the Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford, this event intends to inspire tactics and strategies to harness "big data", which is a term used in information technology to describe "a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications." (Wikipedia).
Representatives from the media industry, journalism, and business disciplines will detail their own case studies, outlining their challenges and successes using tools to understand complex data sets in the media they have produced.
