Resumen

Osmania University’s campus is located in the historic city of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is home to nearly 300,000 students pursuing their higher education studies on its campus, constituent affiliated colleges, and district centres. Its faculty and staff number nearly 5,000. It is a multi-faculty and multidisciplinary university, offering courses in the fields of Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Engineering, Medicine, Technology, Commerce and Business Management, Information Technology, and Oriental Languages. The University’s strategic planning, teaching-and-learning policies, and research direction emphasise respect for the concerns of the society and the need to address the issues that challenge it.

The Department of Communication and Journalism is housed in the College of Arts & Social Sciences. It is equipped to train students in television production and print journalism. The Department co-hosts activities of many organisations including the Press Academy, Press Club, Advertising Club, Public Relations Society of India, and Public Relations Council of India.

The graduate programme introduces students to the theories, principles, and problems of mass communications - emphasising the concept of freedom of information as the cornerstone of constitutional democracy - and prepares students for different roles in communication media. To accomplish this, the Department offers four subjects of study in each semester for mass communication majors working in both print and electronic media. Each course of study offers a blend of basic and advanced laboratory and lecture courses.

In all the four programmes - broadcast journalism, print journalism, development communication, and advertising and public relations - there are specialisation tracks.
