The Communication for Development one-year Master of Arts at Malmö University was launched in 2000. It is given as half-time study over two years, aimed at enhancing the professional training of media, communication, and development practitioners all over the world. Participants, teachers, and technical staff interact in the learning environment offered by ComDev’s curricula and web structure.


The course is intended for journalists, information officers, and other professional groups in the media and information sector. The objective is to provide an in-depth understanding of the interplay between media, communication, and social development through a combination of theoretical globalisation studies and practical field work in a developing country.

Programmes

1. Master of Arts in Communication for Development -

   This 60-credit degree is an international web-based master-level course of study focused on theoretical knowledge and practical competences in the fields of communication, media, culture, development, social change, and globalisation. The teaching is done via online teaching and seminars in Malmö. The one-year MA is taught for the duration of two years, with six weekend seminars and a 5-8-week period of field work. The primary form of study is distance learning on the internet, with an emphasis on group interaction and peers’ collaboration. According to the programme, this distance learning method embraces the web’s potential for "shrinking costs, broadening reach, and eradicating distance".
