The sixth edition of the Best Investigative Report on Corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean has been announced by its sponsors, the Institute for Press and Society/Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS), Transparency International chapters in Latin America and the Caribbean (TILAC), and the Press and Society Institute, an organisation of Latin American independent journalists, based in Lima, with the financial support of the Open Society Institute. Reports published between January 1 and December 31 2007, which uncovered significant aspects of a corruption case through a reporter's own investigation, are eligible. The winner will receive US$25,000. Two awards of US$5,000 will also be given to work of special merit. Journalists or teams of journalists may present one or several investigative reports published in a Latin American or Caribbean media, in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. Teams must designate a representative. Reports published in printed, audio, or video formats may apply. Media companies are not allowed as applicants. Reports published anonymously or under an alias are admitted with an authorship certificate from the media responsible. Associations or media companies may forward one of their journalist's reports if it complies with these criteria. Television or audio reports shall be presented through an audio tape or a VHS-NTSC video tape, including the name of the media that published it and a publication's date certificate. Printed reports must include 1 copy in A4 format. Reports for the web may apply by providing a printed image of the web page, and a copy of the text in a separate diskette.
