Resumen

The Millennium Development Goals Report 2005 provides an accounting of progress towards reaching the targets set for each of the United Nations' eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The report provides one chapter covering the progress toward each goal, and within each chapter provides an analysis of achievements by world region.

Chapter titles:
Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty & Hunger
Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education
Goal 3: Promote Gender Equality & Empower Women
Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality
Goal 5: Improve Maternal Health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases
Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
A foreward by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan describes this report as "a key resource in preparing for the September [Millennium +5] summit". Annan points out the disparity between achievements in some areas and the work remaining to be done in others. "This report," he states, "shows that we have the means at hand to ensure that nearly every country can make good on the promises of the goals. Our challenge is to deploy those means."

Data in this report was provided by national governments and international agencies and was compiled and adjusted by the United Nations Statistical Division and the statistical divisions of several international organisations.
