Red de Información para el Tercer Sector - RITS - Brazil

País

Brasil

Región

Global, Africa, Latin America, South Asia

Resumen

Based in Brazil, RITS produces and disseminates information on, and provides training in, the use of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) for organisations working on issues concerning children, human rights, and poverty. In addition, RITS establishes networks involving civilian society organisations that share information, knowledge, and technical resources through ICTs, especially the Internet. RITS seeks to find ways to use ICTs to empower individuals, civilian society organisations, social movements, and communities.

RITS offers a series of advanced tools and resources for collaborative work, information dissemination, and knowledge management: Intranet, access to databases, support in building sites in the network, technical training, legal assessment, and, eventually, computers.

Estrategias de comunicación

RITS produces and disseminates information free of charge for third sector organisations (NGOs, foundations, and civil society organisations) through the Internet. It unites network members by promoting exchange of experiences and by strengthening initiatives. It also makes technical resources - namely, ICTs - available to organisations to help them carry out their activities.

RITS produces Rets – the Emerging Sector Review, which contains information on courses, upcoming conferences, current events, and work opportunities in civilian society organisations. It also includes in-depth articles.

A current focus of RITS publications and activities is universal access to and citizens' use of ICT as a space to exercise democracy and to strengthen the Brazilian emerging sector. RITS is presently focusing on the following:

  • implementing an information management and knowledge administration system for Fundación Oswaldo Cruz
  • building a human rights site for the British Council
  • creating a Human Rights Network for the University Human Rights Consortium, made up of institutions such as USP, PUC-SP, and the University of Columbia
  • constructing the DLIS Network, an information and knowledge network on integrated sustainable local development
  • organising the project Pronord, an inter-institutional continuous education programme for strengthening the management of emerging sector entities
  • helping establish the Brazilian Ministry of Agrarian Development National Sustainable Rural Development Council Network
  • developing and typing the material for Fundación Casa de Rui Barbosa (Rui Barbosa Home Foundation) and Portal de Ciudadanía (The Citizen's Portal), which will disseminate and gather information on initiatives aimed at promoting and defending citizens.
