According to the organisers of this workshop, MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation (MSTCDC), good local governance is an elastic and versatile concept. It has been interpreted in many different ways so as to encompass many different aspects of social organisation and the institutional framework within which social and economic activities are performed. According to MSTCDC, it is important to consider the responsibility of the state (governments), civil society and the private sector in the promotion of good governance. This course aims to provides a set of tools and techniques for promoting good governance at local level. It aims to offer conceptual and theoretical explanations for the growing criticism of governments’ ability to run state affairs and to make a case for promoting an effective interface between Civil Society Organisations and Local Government Authorities as a springboard to the attainment of good local governance.
