Opportunity Details

Successful community engagement efforts are key to ensuring successful clinical trials, and fundamental to IPM’s mission. The Director for Community Engagement will provide strategic direction to the Community Engagement team, who is responsible for communications, advocacy, education and outreach strategies at all clinical research centres for IPM in Africa and elsewhere. The incumbent will actively develop and maintain relationships with governmental and nongovernmental organizations as appropriate and other stakeholders in collaboration with the External Relations team, and provide direction and guidance with regards to recruitment, retention, and community education related to community advisory boards, community liaison officers and similar networks.

Close collaboration with other teams in IPM (e.g. site development, clinical programs, safety and external relations,) is required to ensure that all community ideas, values and concerns are taken into consideration during HIV incidence preparedness studies and microbicides clinical trials. Another crucial part of the role is to provide advocacy to all issues and discussions between the Community Engagement Team and community representatives, NGOs and other partners interested in Microbicides and clinical trial activity.
