Description

SNDT Women's University claims to be the first women's university in India, established in 1916, having national jurisdiction. The University Department of Extension Education offers post-graduate courses - the Masters in Extension Education and the Diploma programme in Communication and Media, as well as the MPhil and PhD. The Department trains students for professional work in government, corporate, and non-government sectors. The students are exposed to extension and communication media subject areas through the Diploma and Masters programmes.

Programmes

  1. Master of Science (MSc) in Extension Education - This programme provides students with understanding in extension systems, gender and development, development communication, research methods, theory, and practice of extension work through regular field work. It prepares students to conceptualise, design, manage, and evaluate social and behavioural changes in the community. The programme prepares students for professional services in educational, research, and developmental institutions, as well as extension/community projects. The Department lays emphasis on fieldwork in urban slum communities and exposure to rural communities.
  2. Post Graduate (PG) Diploma in Communication and Media - This programme trains students to work in professional media environments including advertising, production studios, television channels, public relation firms, etc. Students are exposed to various aspects of communication media ranging from theatre to film making, from film appreciation to writing for media.

Other Information

Only women graduates are eligible to apply for these courses. Admission assessment for Masters students includes the Common Entrance Test (CET), the Subject Specialisation Test (SST), and the personal interview, in the proportion of 3:2:1. The CET covers general aptitude, logic, and language-related questions. The SST intends to assess the applicant's understanding of the discipline specialisation. Candidates opting for the Communication and Media diploma have to complete only the 'SST'. Personal interviews are mandatory for both the courses.
