Outside of the clinics: 68% of men in Kenya had heard family planning messages on the radio, 54% on posters, 46% in newspapers and magazines, 38% from pamphlets, and 26% from billboards. Exposure to any one of the five channels was 83%. In the clinics, new family planning users came to know of the issue through radio drama (38%), other radio sources (27%), group talks (22%), or print materials such as posters, leaflets or newspapers (42%).
Increased Discussion of Development Issues
42% of respondents reported speaking to their spouse about family planning, within the last 6 months, an increase from 38%, however, 94% said that it was important to talk with spouses about family planning issues.
Knowledge Shifts

In the clinics, new family planning users came to know of the issue through radio drama (38%), other radio sources (27%), group talks (22%), or print materials such as posters, leaflets or newspapers (42%). Number of people who could describe the advantages of their contraceptive method and the procedure for its use increased from 1 in 5 people to 4 in 5 people only one year after the campaign started in 1991.
Practices
Clinic data shows that neww acceptors per month were up from 1,500 to 2,000. 56% of those who heard the radio program used modern contraceptive methods, compared to 38% by those who had not heard Haki Yako messages.
