Media Advocacy Workshop for Women’s OrganisationsStart DateJuly 2 2009End DateJuly 4 2009LocationRabat, Morocco Event summaryThe aim of the workshop is to help women’s organisations in Morocco better understand media culture and the ways in which they can promote their own activities through the media and therefore influence decision-makers. United Kingdom journalist Leslie Abdela, who has recently been recognised as Woman Political Journalist of the Year 2009, will lead the workshop. The workshop is part of a Media Diversity Institute (MDI) 2-year training programme, designed to promote inclusive journalism in Morocco. The Media Diversity Institute (MDI) is a charitable, non-partisan organisation that works to mobilise the power of media to lessen inter-group conflict, advance human rights – especially minority rights – and support deeper public understanding of all types of social diversity. MDI focuses on regions where news media have played a destructive role in exacerbating ethnic and religious conflicts and violations of human and minority rights. MDI works with media organisations, journalists, journalism educators, organisations, and governments to prevent and reconcile conflict, promote tolerance of vulnerable groups, and stimulate balanced and non-partisan journalism.
