This department explores "finding better ways to educate and train nurses, midwives, medical practitioners, and other health professionals and enhance their capacity to professionally and competently contribute to the improved well being in our community."

Programmes

1. The Graduate Certificate in Nurse Led Telephone Triage and Consultation - The aim of this training is to extend nurses' clinical, legal, ethical, moral, and cultural knowledge while using a range of communication skills in conjunction with a range of decision-making frameworks. These skills will impact on the effective delivery of services in the primary, secondary, and emergency arenas and facilitate participants' involvement in telephone triage and consultation. Participants may qualify for advanced standing where appropriate. Changes to health care delivery and the increased use of Nurse Call Centres coupled with the flexibility of working from home has led to the development of "Nurse-Led Telephone Triage" as a new speciality in Nursing. The scope of practice for nurses working in these roles has opened new opportunities for nurses in call centres, emergency departments, general practice, and in rural & remote areas.
