Summary

This 587-page document synthesises the findings from a survey that was initiated by the Information for Development Program (infoDev), a multi-donor partnership housed at the World Bank, which investigates issues related to the effective and appropriate use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in education in individual African countries. The preliminary data presented in this publication were drawn from a quick survey process conducted in 2007. According to the authors, the document should be regarded as illustrative rather than exhaustive.

It includes reports from 53 African countries. Each short report provides a general overview of current activities and developments related to ICT use in education in the country, using the following format:

  • Overview
  • Country Profile
  • The Education System
  • ICT Policies
  • Infrastructure
  • Current ICT Initiatives and Projects
  • Implementing ICT in Education
