Event summary

The Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre (ARSRC) is calling for applications to the sixth edition of the Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship (SLDF) Programme. The programme is offering a two-week course, which deals with contemporary debates in sexuality studies and emerging best practice in programming for sexual wellbeing.

The objectives of the SLDF programme are to provide:

  • exposure to cutting-edge conceptual, theoretical and programmatic issues in sexuality, sexual health and sexual rights.
  • a better understanding of the interaction between sexuality, development and social justice through opportunities to explore the linkages between sexuality theory, rights-based activism and public health programming to; and
  • development of the essential leadership, teamwork, public speaking and advocacy skills to advance the sexual wellbeing of the communities they serve.



The 2009 SLDF curriculum will among other issues focus on:

  • Sexualities, Rights and Pleasure
  • Re-thinking Masculinities & Femininities
  • HIV & AIDS and Vulnerabilities
  • Sexual Health and Rights
  • Sexuality and Citizenship

Fellows will be instructed by a multidisciplinary faculty of experts in the field of sexuality, community leadership and advocacy and public health. The fellowship is structured to promote sharing of ideas, team building, and collaborative work amongst participants in order to nurture relationships that last beyond the fellowship period.

This course is designed for young professionals in public service, civil society activists, programme officers/ managers, media practitioners, aged 35 years and below with a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent and with demonstrable experience and (or) interest in the area of sexuality, sexual health and rights.

Registration Information

Application deadline: June 12 2009

The tuition fee for the two-week course is US$2,500 (The tuition fee includes trainer costs, background materials and book supplies, field trips, and group lunches). The fee does not cover round-trip travel to Lagos, visa fees or living expenses. The ARSRC offers a limited number of highly competitive, scholarships on a cost-sharing basis, to cover tuition, accommodation and living costs while the selected awardees will be responsible for their airfare/travel costs to the programme.
