Harvard School of Public HealthLocationCambridge, Massachusetts, United States DepartmentDepartment of Society, Human Development, and Health
DescriptionThe mission of the Department of Society, Human Development, and Health (SHDH) at Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) is to improve health throughout the lifespan, including a special emphasis on children and adolescents. This mission is achieved through research to identify the social and behavioural determinants of health and development; through the evaluation of interventions and policies leading to the improvement of population health; and through the preparation of professionals and researchers who will fill leadership positions in advocacy and public service. The department's educational mission is to train both scholars and practitioners: scholars whose research will illuminate basic social determinants of health and who will identify and test innovative social policy and service interventions; practitioners who are skilled in designing, implementing, and evaluating health-enhancing interventions in action settings. Dr Michel ODIKA - Question about a project
FROM: Doctor Michel ODIKA
Date: 20 October 2009
First of all, I come from Congo-Brazzaville, a french-speaking country in Central Africa. The purpose of this mail relates to a challenging question. What does it mean in concrete terms?
As a physician (Endocrinologist, Dijon Medical school, France), I am actually involved in a... "groundbreaking" project (1,2) primarily aimed at merging the ministries of health and environment in Congo-Brazzaville. My question, therefore, can be summarized as follows: as a notorious health economist sensitive to development issues, do you think the project to be economically pertinent and financially realistic:
- in terms of public health?
- in terms of environmental safety and sustainability?
- in terms of social integration and cohesion?
- in terms of sustainable and equitable development?
What else? If possible, I would like to subscribe to your major online publications on health spending and health inequalities across the world, so as to strengthen and update my interest (3,4) in these two issues of growing concern...
Thank you in advance for helping advance my key question.
Best regards,
Doctor Michel ODIKA
