Description
College of Development Communication (CDC) trains faculty members of state universities and colleges in the Philippines and in other countries for their higher degrees in development communication.
The ninth college established under the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), CDC conducts research on human development and on the processes, elements, and impacts of communication. The College likewise undertakes training, research, extension, and other development action projects.
Programmes
- Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Development Communication (via distance mode) - The Master of Professional Studies in Development Communication is designed to enable students to acquire a strong foundation in development communication theory and practice. The programme is designed for communication practitioners who are in government and non-government research and development institutions, community media outfits, state colleges and universities, and other communication schools. Students enroll in this programme through the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU).
- Master of Science (MS) in Development Communication - The Master of Science in Development Communication is designed to enable students to: (1) synthesise knowledge, theories, principles and strategies of communication and apply them in addressing problems of development at different levels; (2) gain a wider perspective of the theory and practice of the different schools of thought of development communication; (3) develop further the ability to conceptualise and conduct research in development communication; (4) develop capability for professional leadership in development communication; and (5) develop and apply devcom skills in an integrative, innovative and wholistic manner. The MS graduate in development communication is expected to be competent in teaching; research and evaluation; design and management of devcom systems; and programme/project development; aside from possessing the competencies of the BSDC graduate.
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Development Communication - The Doctor of Philosophy in Development Communication is designed to enable students to: (1) acquire a broader and deeper understanding of theories, principles and approaches of devcom; (2) generate and advance knowledge on devcom through creative research approaches; (3) evaluate, formulate, and recommend devcom policies, systems and approaches; and (4) discern, analyse, and articulate trends and issues in development and in communication and their interfaces. The Ph.D. graduate in development communication is expected to have acquired competencies in administration, theory building, policy formulation and analysis, scholarly research and strategy design, aside from possessing the competencies of the MS devcom graduate.
