Metcalf Science Immersion Workshop Journalism Fellowships
Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting, Rhode Island, United States (US), offers fellowships for early- to mid-career journalists to attend the week-long Annual Science Immersion Workshop, June 12-17 2011. Focusing on: "Coastal Impacts: Lessons Learned from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill", Metcalf fellows learn about the route that research takes from hypothesis to funding to publication, how to translate peer-reviewed science articles for a news audience, and how to dig into databases and find the information needed for impactful reporting. Participants also attend a public lecture series, presented by Metcalf Institute and held during their fellowship at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. Each fellowship provides tuition and room and board.
Workshop fellowships are available to journalists from all media with a demonstrated interest in reporting on science and the environment, and professional journalism experience. According to the Institute, there is limited space for non-US citizens.
