Programme Summary

Launched in 2005 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service Trust (WST), "Real Men" is a live phone-in radio programme encouraging Cambodian men to talk about taboo subjects. The weekly programme is being broadcast by the national broadcaster, Radio National of Kampuchea (RNK).

Communication Strategies

This initiative uses the medium of radio to foster the discussion of sensitive issues such as sex outside marriage, condom use, HIV testing, domestic violence, and the consequences of drug abuse. Following a training process carried out by the BBC WST, RNK staff began co-producing the call-in programme. The programme broadcasts frank conversations, and organisers say that callers to "Real Men" are increasingly willing to discuss challenging issues.
