ACT NOW! Against AIDS

Country

South Africa

Region

Africa

Deadline Date

October 10 2008

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) of South Africa is inviting applications from HIV/AIDS-related arts and culture projects for ACT NOW! Against AIDS. Projects taking place in 2009 are eligible for support, and ACT will consider requests up to a maximum of R50,000. According to the organisers, the initiative is loosely based on the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS model in the United States which raises funds for AIDS in Africa at the opening performances of hit Broadway shows. The programme is designed to mobilise resources within the performing arts in South Africa to raise funds and conduct activities for HIV/AIDS-related arts and culture projects.

ACT is inviting requests for support from arts and culture projects which specifically support the fight against HIV/AIDS. According to ACT Trustee Brenda Devar, "all money raised locally will be used to support cultural initiatives that are either run by or whose beneficiaries are those who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS."

Application Information

Requests should be submitted via e-mail to projects@act.org.za with ACT NOW! in the subject line, following the application guidelines for letters of enquiry outlined on the "apply" page of ACT website.

Closing Date for applications is October 10 2008.

By any civic, moral and legal yardsticks, the expansion of transnational/global knowledge and research should not be blocked/checked or spied by the administrative means. The new western technologies are being used to make an unwarranted ghetto between the developing and the developed world- a measure that is against all the fundamental norms/rights for which the Western/ governments/ civil societies do claim to be the defenders or champions.
