The South African Breweries (SAB) Environmentalist and Environmental Journalists of The Year Awards have been established to recognise South African environmentalists and journalists working to make a difference to the environment. The awards focus on the entire spectrum of “green” and “brown” environmental issues: green issues address natural or ecological matters, while brown issues focus more on cities and urban concerns, such as waste and air pollution. The categories for the awards are:
Each of the three awards carries a cash prize of R15, 000 and a trophy. Merit awards carry a prize of R2, 000 each. Judging criteria for the print and internet awards and the radio and television awards:

All individuals are invited to submit their work or nominate others’ work, including editors, managers, colleagues, and the panel of judges themselves.
