Avian Influenza Community Based Risk Reduction ProjectCountryCambodia RegionSouth East and East Asia Programme SummaryIn September 2007, CARE Cambodia launched a project designed to improve the capacity of that country's provincial government, communities, and households to respond to the threat of an avian influenza outbreak. Communication StrategiesCARE Cambodia is undertaking local awareness raising efforts, drawing largely on interpersonal communication. Capacity building sessions are being held in an effort to share avian influenza information about human and animal health with government officials and community members. In addition, CARE is trialling a community-based model that is designed to enhance avian influenza surveillance, reporting, and response. Another strategy being explored is a community-based model for improving bio-security behaviours. Reaching out to children through printed materials is another project strategy. Organisers are developing a schoolbook in Krueng and Tampouen languages for use in specific Ratanakiri schools. Development IssuesHealth, Natural Resource Management. ContactJacquelyn Pinat
