Gender and Media Diversity Journal on Media, Activism, and Change

Author

Deborah Walter (ed.)

Publication Date

January 1, 2008

Summary

This fourth edition of the Gender and Media Diversity Journal, published by the Gender and Media Diversity Centre (GMDC). The GMDC is a physical and virtual resource centre based in Southern Africa, facilitating "the collection, connection and dissemination of information and resources relating to gender, media and diversity. The centre also collaborates on research, education and training." This issue "explores various aspects of media activism – how media itself plays an activist role and how activists are increasingly using the media more pro-actively on issues as diverse as gender, HIV/AIDS, children's rights and governance." The journal explores the question: Should journalists be activists, or does their activism create bias? The collection of articles intends to "raise some complex questions about the ethics and accountability related to activism and journalism."

  2. A Place for Media Activism - 3 articles
