The USC Annenberg School for Communication is seeking a Program Specialist to assist with the evaluation, general research, data collection and analysis for the Hollywood, Health & Society project, a CDC-funded project at Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center.
THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION AND IS LOCATED IN BEVERLY HILLS, CA.
The Program Specialist will evaluate program activities, develop survey instruments, analyze and interpret data, develop summary reports and make recommendations based on evaluation findings. The Program Specialist serves as backup to the Program Director and the Project Managers.
The qualified candidate must have strong analytical and problem-solving capability with the ability to analyze and interpret complex scientific information for consumer and academic audiences. The candidate must be detail and deadline oriented and able to work independently. Experience with general budget and accounting practices, and computer literacy with MS Word, Excel, ACT!, Access, PowerPoint and SPSS.
Job Responsibilities:
- The collection, analysis and reporting of data from selected databases and the organization and production of grant proposals, budgets and research articles.
- Conduct general research: literature reviews and LexisNexis searches; produce informational and promotional materials for events and partners.
- Support research and submit abstracts for conferences and presentations; administer an entertainment education listserv.
- Produce materials for advisory board meetings and TV program briefings. Work directly with faculty, graduate students and researchers at TV networks on research and evaluation projects.
- Supervise other staff and interns as needed. Serve as a resource to other staff on the Hollywood, Health & Society project, and provide oversight of budget activity as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years directly related professional experience in program specialization, e.g., counseling or teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in health sciences, public health or communications, and 3 years of experience in academic, business or community settings. Have 2 years of directly related professional experience working on research projects for health promotion. The successful candidate will possess strong written and oral skills, relevant experience with health promotion issues, grant-funded programs, and communication evaluation efforts. Knowledge of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and USC programs for health promotion and disease. Knowledge of public relations, the entertainment industry, web development, general mass media and communications research (i.e., concepts, tools, data collection, analysis methods and design).
