USC Annenberg School’s Norman Lear Center seeks an experienced communications/public health professional to direct, develop and operate a comprehensive entertainment education program for international health topics in the United States. The position will manage special projects on behalf of the Program Director and provide assistance and support in the planning, design, development and implementation of short and long-term projects.

 

The Program Specialist will oversee primary outreach to TV shows and networks, and coordinate with staff and partners on research activities for the project. The Program Specialist will have experience developing health communications and/or educational campaigns in Africa and familiarity with U.S. policy issues around international health topics. The Program Specialist will develop timelines, budgets and proposals, meet with TV executives, experts and funding agency staff, develop briefings for TV shows, develop tracking data and tip sheets, and oversee contractor-supported events and conferences.

 

The Program Specialist will develop and manage reports, presentations and proposals for funding agencies and professional audiences, and review student, faculty, and staff reports and articles on the content and impact of entertainment programs on target audiences. The position reports to the Program Director, and provides continuity between outreach and evaluation activities, as well as supervision to students, interns, and other staff.

 

Skills include: media relations, public relations, crisis communications, entertainment education, social marketing, audience or behavioral research analysis and interpretation, budget control and development, communication – written and oral skills, partnership development, staff development, foundation funding procedures, interpretation of academic and government policies, interviewing, knowledge of applicable laws/policies/principles/etc., networking, organizational planning, problem identification and resolution, project management, speaking/presentations, research procedures, and teaching/training. Additional skills will include Microsoft Office, i.e. MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

 

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN BEVERLY HILLS, CA. THIS IS A FULL-TIME, GRANT-FUNDED POSITION.

 

Qualified applicants will have public health, federal agency and federal grant experience.

 

Qualified applicants will possess administrative project administration experience. They will also possess a working knowledge of mass media, entertainment education, health campaign development and/or public relations, with a communication degree, MPH or comparable degree, and at least five years combined experience working in health and/or media organizations.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with two years directly related professional experience in program specialization, e.g. counseling or teaching.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Public Health, advanced communication or comparable degree and ten years combined experience working in health and/or media organizations. Experience developing health communications and/or educational campaigns in Africa and familiarity with U.S. policy issues around international health topics.
