The World Health Organization is recruiting the next Director for Knowledge Management and Sharing.
The Department of Knowledge Management (KMS) works to make WHO a reliable source of information on the critical factors and trends that affect global public health. It brings WHO's information to the world, providing technical content to governments, NGOs, the UN and the general public. It houses and maintains WHO's intellectual property, and provides access to this work through its library services. It advocates for multilingual publishing, and licenses external translations of the Organization's output. It builds capacity within the Organization on writing, editing, publishing and the use of evidence.
Description of duties:
- To develop and implement strategies related to knowledge management that will 1) strengthen the performance of health systems and 2) strengthen the knowledge culture of WHO, and 3) establish knowledge management as a fundamental public health science.
- Serve as key player in contributing to the overall vision and implementation of the IER strategy and leads IER strategic planning related to knowledge management; plans and directs the work and staff of the department, collaborates, coordinates with Regional KMS focal points on institution-wide development and implementation of knowledge management strategy.
- Pioneers the development and implementation of innovative and effective knowledge management strategies in public health drawing on WHO's assets and, in partnership with other institutions, designs and promotes international norms, standards, guidelines and recommendations with respect to knowledge management as a core public health science. Supports member states in the development, implementation and monitoring of knowledge management strategies.
- Oversees the WHO Libraries in their activities to enable access to highest quality scientific information to support all health sector activities in member states and particularly in developing countries.
- Oversees the production of the annual World Health Report (WHR) closely collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief each year and the relevant technical program at headquarters and in Regional Offices.
- Oversees the publication of the Bulletin of the World Health Organization by working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, members of the Editorial Board, and the Editorial Committee; oversees the WHO Press in its activities related to publishing, licensing, marketing, sales and dissemination and is responsible for the governance and implementation of the WHO publication policy; oversees the WHO coordinator on Multi-lingualism and ensures implementation of the multi-lingual plan of action.
Profile:
At least fifteen years experience in knowledge management planning and application at the national level preferably in public sector setting, with at least five years experience in global public health either at the international level or through direct work experience in developing countries.

- Annual Salary: 96219 US$ at single rate - 104736 US$ with primary dependants
- Post adjustment: 95.9 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
