Media Helping Media (MHM)RegionGlobal Programme Summary This online initiative is designed to provide a communication platform for members of the media in transition states, post-conflict countries, and areas where freedom of expression and media freedom is under threat. Communication StrategiesMedia Helping Media is a participatory website designed by and for journalists in order to share information and spark dialogue. Designed around the "wiki" concept, and operating under a Creative Commons license, MHM offers free registration; once approved, a new member can apply to be an "author" and can gain access to the site's content management system (which enables them to upload articles, images, and/or links to stories about where freedom of the media is under threat) and add comments to the articles that their colleagues have placed on the site). The MHM Forum is a place where all registered members can post about these issues and where those involved in media development can discuss issues and ideas. MHM has volunteer authors on every continent; the front page articles update only when fresh news is uploaded by one of the site's many authors. An RSS feed may be set up for the latest news stories posted; selected examples include "Campaign to Release Egyptian Blogger", "Connecting Papua's Remote Villages", "Journalism Training Wiki Developed", and "Cartoons Tell The China Story on World Press Freedom Day". MHM encourages media organisations to reuse any article published on MHM, as long as they mention the name of the site and provide a link back to MHM. This initiative is also designed to share information and build capacity through features such as a "tools" section focused on media ethics, media management, media training, and investigative journalism. Also offered is a list of links to information available on other websites in various topics; for instance, media development, media support, media freedom, media monitoring, independent news organisations, and human rights. News from different regions, posted by MHM authors, is provided as part of this effort to draw on the internet to connect those interested in media freedom. Development IssuesRights.
