International Journalism Exchange

Region

Global

Deadline Date

June 1, 2008

The International Journalism Exchange is administered by the International Center for Journalists in partnership with the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Through this programme, 10 or more newspaper editors are invited to the United States (US) for a five-week programme, the core of which is about three weeks at a US newspaper. The visiting editors have opportunities to meet US media experts and visit major news organizations during a week-long orientation in Washington, D.C., and then to observe all aspects of producing a newspaper and managing a newsroom during a three-week stay with a newsroom, and are invited to exchange ideas and information with the host newsroom staff and local community. Participants reconvene in New York towards the end of the programme for more media visits and program debriefing and evaluations.

The goals of this programme are to strengthen the independent press abroad and to enhance US understanding of other cultures and journalism around the world. Writing and reporting are not objectives of the programme. The programme dates this year will be October 8 - November 7 2008.

The deadline for application is June 1 2008.
