This booklet from Amnesty International (AI), is designed for human rights educators to understand violence against women (VAW) and laws protecting women. It includes detailed instructions on how to organise and run a two-day workshop for staff, board members, and volunteers of human rights organisations and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in related fields. The material explores the causes and consequences of violence against women and the legal mechanisms and tools available to combat such violence. The pack includes all necessary supporting materials for each session, such as case studies, facilitator’s tips, and handouts, as well as a set of resources and background information.



Module one objectives:

• Exploring one's understanding of gender;
• Questioning commonly held assumptions on gender construction;
• Exploring concepts of stereotypes, prejudice, and power and their relationship to VAW; and
• Conceptualising women's rights and analysis of root causes and consequences of violence against women.

Module two objectives:

• Locating women's rights in the human rights framework; and
• Becoming aware of barriers to prevention of VAW, exploring solutions, and developing action methods and goals.
