Administered by One World Broadcasting Trust (OWBT), these awards aim to recognise news coverage in the United Kingdom (UK) that reflects the social, political, and cultural life of people in the wider world. The goal is to encourage excellence in media coverage that supports a greater understanding between developing and developed countries. The awards recognise the unique role of the media in bridging this divide, and communicating the breadth of social, political, and cultural experiences of people across the world.

All entries should be concerned with social, political or cultural aspects of the developing world - Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, or the former Soviet Union.
Entries must have been broadcast or published in a recognised publication for the first time in the United Kingdom between March 15 2007 and March 14 2008, except the International Premiere Award, the MDG Award, and the Special Award for Development Media. Entries should be submitted together with application form and entry fee.
