LocationEntebbe, Uganda Event summaryThis seven-day workshop is the first step in a two-year programme being launched in 2008 by Medicines Transparency Alliance (MeTA), an organisation that aims to use a multi-stakeholder approach towards increasing transparency around the regulation, selection, procurement, sale, distribution and use of medicines in developing countries to strengthen governance, encourage responsible business practices and improve access to medicines, especially for the economically poor. The programme is designed to build capacity of civil society in Ghana, Uganda and Tanzania.
According to the organisers, the participation of civil society in the programme activities is important to the success of the process. The workshop is designed to help participants to:
The workshop will include knowledge sharing, skills development, experience sharing and country planning sessions each day. A mid-week field visit will provide participants with an opportunity for direct learning about the issues of transparency in the Ugandan pharmaceutical sector.
