Organisational Development (Feb 18 - 22 2008)

Location

Oxford, UK

Event Summary

A current concern and priority for managers and senior practitioners in the NGO sector is how to build the capacity of their organisations and of their partner organisations. This course links to the introductory course on understanding three key themes for capacity development: civil society strengthening, organisational capacity building and organisational development (OD). It is designed for those with some experience of capacity building programmes, and who wish to explore OD as a way of intervening to improve an organisation. The course uses reflective practice to develop participants’ understanding of organisational development.

Course Objectives

  • Examine your role as a change agent
  • Review your understanding of the OD cycle
  • Examine the links between OD and capacity building
  • Assess the range of possible OD interventions: their advantages and disadvantages and how to select the most appropriate intervention
  • Explore the use of OD in NGO partnerships
  • Examine Organisational Assessment as a specific OD process
  • Examine the particular challenges of monitoring and evaluating OD work
  • Examine responses to change at organisational and individual levels and how to manage these
