Sindh Committed to Eradicating Polio by Year's End

September 17 2007

Summary

This article describes the Sindh government's ongoing commitment to eradicating polio. This Pakistani province hopes to be polio-free by the end of 2007, according to Provincial Secretary Prevention and Public Health Dr Abdul Majid, in support of the broader global polio eradication initiative.

The Sindh Health Department has extensively engaged general physicians in the cause, and the Pakistan Paediatric Association is holding regular seminars and workshops to highlight the importance of oral polio vaccination to healthcare professionals. In addition, the initiative is attempting to counter popular myths and misconceptions about the process by using well-known Pakistani television performers Ali Azfar and Mani as spokespeople in different areas of the city Karachi.
