King Baudouin International Development Prize

Region

Africa, Latin America, South Asia, South East and East Asia, South Pacific

Deadline Date

February 1 2008

The Brussels-based King Baudouin Foundation invites nominations for the 2008-09 King Baudouin International Development Prize. The King Baudouin Prize is presented every two years to reward the work of persons or organisations that have made a substantial contribution to the development of countries in the Southern Hemisphere. Beyond its actual financial value, the Prize provides its winners with international visibility and promotion. The 2008-09 Prize, worth 150,000 euros, will be awarded in the spring of 2009 at the Royal Palace in Brussels. Previous prizewinners cover a broad spectrum of fields, from literacy to the education of rural communities, technology transfer, new forms of credit, fair trade, good governance, and protection of human rights defenders.

To nominate a candidate:

  • Submitting a candidate's file may only be undertaken by a nominator (in other words an individual or an organisation distinct from the candidate); the Selection Committee will not consider actions undertaken by individuals who are applying for the Prize themselves or for the organisation within which they are active.
  • The candidate must be either an individual or an organisation.
  • Several individuals or organisations that are not structurally linked cannot be presented as one single candidacy.
  • A former Prize winner may not be submitted a second time as a candidate. If a candidate was not withheld, it may, however, be submitted again for a next Prize.

The deadline for application is February 1 2008.
