Free the Slaves is accepting nominations for the 2010 Harriet Tubman Award. The Harriet Tubman Award is given to a community-based organisation (CBO) that is demonstrating how slavery can be dismantled and destroyed. The organisation will be working to prevent and eliminate slavery, and to bring survivors to lasting freedom.

This award will give the winning organisation:

  • A grant of US$25,000 a year for two years.
  • A technical assistance package worth US$15,000 a year for two years.
  • A tour to share experiences with relevant organisations.
  • A short documentary film produced by Free the Slaves about the anti-slavery activities and work of the organisation.

CBOs in any part of the world are eligible for this award. Both nominations and self-nominations are welcome. Among the eligibility requirements are the following (please access the link below for a complete list):

  • Have been operating for at least three years.
  • Be legally able to receive funds from overseas sources.
  • Be willing to share their work experiences with others (Free the Slaves will arrange interpretation).
